Why Do Scabies Mites Itch More At Night? Options · View

A majority of patients suffering from scabies have complained that the scabies itch would worsen at night. Despite several medical treatments, there are different theories existent about this fact.

It has been concluded that these parasitic mites are light phobic and they would stay in the skin while you are busy during the day. Even if they are microscopic in nature, they could be easily scratched off during the day. Secondly, they require warm and moist atmosphere to reproduce. Mites are pretty good with survival since they complete a full life cycle of 21 days on the body of the host. These mites would crawl out of their burrows at night and you may also feel the itching getting worse. Some people suggest that you must always keep a bottle of water mixed with vinegar. As soon as you feel the itching sensation, you can spray this mixture and would work well on the scalp as well. The typical salad smell would go away in a few minutes and would leave you with itch-free night. A few of the other alternatives are alcohol or an adhesive tape.

Before trying any of these remedies, do not switch the light on since it may perhaps scare the mites away. On the other hand, the body becomes warm at night and creates an ideal environment for mites. In a severe form of scabies, there are thousands of mites burrowed under the skin and probably no over-the-counter medicine would be able to eliminate them. In such cases, it is mandatory to approach a medical practitioner as soon as possible.
