Scabies is one of the most disturbing skin conditions and hence, there are several medications available for the condition. These medications may sometimes prove to be extremely strong and often come with alarming side effects. Therefore, people have now turned to alternative sources to treat scabies and lessen the accompanying symptoms. In the most severe form of the condition, the sufferer would often find the scabies rash on the scalp, the face, the palms as well as the soles.

Out of all the medications tried out, turpentine has proven to be effective to treat the scabies on the scalp. Turpentine oil can be freely found in all the major convenience stores, for less than $5. Since the oil is extremely strong all by itself, it has to be mixed with some condition and left overnight. If you wish to use it on the other parts of the body, you must mix it with some moisturizing lotion. If you were to apply turpentine directly on the skin, it would burn a lot. Some people are allergic to turpentine and hence you must always perform a patch test, before you start using the chemical yourself. On the other hand, it is imperative to seek medical attention, apart from using this oil. You can also mix this oil with some of the essential oils available in the market, including olive oil or a selection of other oils. Scabies on the scalp can cause a lot of embarrassment and in order to eliminate the mites, you would have to pick something this strong.

If you have scabies on the scalp you should be using sulfur creams. With permethrin based treatments they can only be used from the neck down, there is a specific reason for this because the pesticide chemical is very dangerous and can cause neurological problems, children and pregnant women can also not use these types of treatments. It is highly suggested that people infected with scabies use sulfur treatments to avoid any post scabies secondary infections from occurring.
