Scabies is an infection in the skin caused by mites. This skin infection is contagious, which is one reason why immediate treatment is needed. These mites that cause scabies usually live under the skin, and they produce rashes that look like pimples. The mites will then start laying their eggs beneath your skin, and they will be fed using your blood. Usually, they are not visible to the naked eye because they are transparent and small. You will often see scabies in your armpits, beltline, abdomen and the groin. Some people, like babies, can also develop this kind of skin infection in the scalp, face and the soles of their feet.

There are actually a lot of ways that you can treat scabies. Having rashes on any part of your body can be irritating and embarrassing, not to mention that scabies are highly contagious; that’s why it’s so important to have this condition treated as soon as possible.

One of the most common treatments for scabies is use of certain skin creams, such as sulfur. This kind of cream is ideal for pregnant women, because it is safest for them to use. You can apply the cream on the infected area before going to bed, and then rinse it off thoroughly upon waking up in the morning. You should do this for as long as the scabies are still there, for the skin to thoroughly heal.

You may also take oral medications, such as ivermectin. This type of medicine is known to treat different types of parasites that live under peoples’ skin. Taking this type of medication requires you to go to your doctor to ask for advice and prescription. He will be the one to give you the right dosage that you should take, because the dosage will depend on things like your body weight. Always make sure to follow the dosage that your doctor will tell you to avoid any complications or unnecessary side effects.

Benadryl and topical steroids can also be used to relieve the itchiness associated with scabies. Usually the medication process will take four whole weeks before the scabies fully disappear, and the itchiness of the skin will continue to occur during that time. That is why topical steroids and Benadryl would be advisable during this stage. Avoid scratching your rashes, as this can only make the itch and appearance of the rash much worse.

These are some of the available treatments for scabies. Don’t forget to treat them immediately, to avoid infecting others with these mites.
