Bed bugs are parasitic, bloodsucking insects that often leave people tossing and turning at night. Though oftentimes bedbugs feed at night, there are some cases where people reported getting bitten by these pests in broad daylight.

How do you spot them?

Bedbugs are usually found near where people like to sleep, often they are in the bed frame, inside mattresses, they are also sometimes found in the wallpaper. You can find evidence of a bedbug infestation if you actually find dead drying bodies of said insects near your bed, or if you actually feel them biting you at night. You will also find bedbug excrement around the places where they live, and you can also tell if there's a bedbug infestation in a room because of the strong, unpleasant smell that they release.

Bedbug Bite Symptoms

Though bedbugs are not normally regarded as disease bearing parasites, they are actually annoying. Because bed bugs feed at night, their rather painful bites are the cause of many a sleepless nights, thus resulting in lack of energy and decreased mental capacity because of lack of sleep. These symptoms are often found in children and in some light sleepers. People react differently to bedbug bites, some get bright red marks that are often itchy, while some lucky ones actually develop an immunity to the bites.

Although bed bugs feed at night, they do not actually have to feed every night. A bed bug would normally just need to get nourishment once every ten days, so if you find yourself getting bitten multiple times for several nights in a row then you are surely dealing with more than just one bed bug, you are most likely facing an infestation of these blood-thirsty parasites.

If You Do Find Bedbugs...

Good housekeeping is always one of the best defenses against bedbugs, regularly cleaning and vacuuming mattresses and sofas will oftentimes discourage these parasitic insects from taking up residence in your home. But if you find that you are already harboring a couple thousand of these unwelcome house guests, you need to immediately wash all of the bed linen in hot water, and completely clean any area of the room that are likely to harbor these insects. You can also try using insecticide on the bed frames.
