It is difficult to prevent scabies. If a person is known to have scabies, they should not have close skin-to-skin contact with others until they have been treated. If one member of a household has scabies, all other household members, sexual partners, and close contacts should be treated simultaneously.
In the hospital, staff should use gloves and gowns when treating patients who have a suspicious rash and itching.

Yes if you have scabies you shoudl be worrying about keeping yourself away from people until you are completely healed from scabies. If you have a normal bout of scabies it should only take one treatment. But if you were misdiagnosed or had them for ahwile I would suggest you stay away from people around you or you could be passing scabies back and forth for years. :(

Prevention is the key and killing the scabies mite cycle. Be careful not to pass it to family members so stay away for awhile.

Here are some great tips that have helped me prevent scabies reinfection:
1) Dry clothing and bedding upon waking up and going to bed 2) Keep clothing and towels in air tight containers 3) Bath once a night using 8 drops of tea tree oil 4) Dry after baths very intensly 5) Steam clean bedding and carpeting once a week (steam cleaners are like 100$ and easy to use: good investment)

Usually scabies is passed around primarily by the family, this is why it is suggested you treat the entire family at once even if you think they do not scabies. This is a safe way to prevent a cycle before it starts, alot of family pass it around like hopscotch because only one member treats.

I agree, I kept on passing scabies back and forth with my boyfriend and as a result it took us even longer to get rid of scabies as we were playing scabies hopscotch

If you treated scabies successfully and are worried about getting reinfected from family members or maybe items in your household, I would suggest whipping things down morning and night with some kind of bleach product and you can take baths with 8 drops of tea tree oil, the smell of this stuff on your skin keeps them away, it will not cure a full scabies infection but it will detract them from wanting to make you their host. Hope this helps!
