Yes it is possible to get them on your head, but in like 97% of cases of scabies they do not reside on the head, rather under the folds of skin and around wrists and waste lines. But it is very possible to get scabies on your head, I would buy a 1% permerthrin which is meant for head lice and apply that maybe once a week. This should get rid of them while not making you sick.

I also had them on the top of my head, and let me tell you it was super annoying and hard to get rid of, my guess is because your scalp is so thick it is easy for them to hide. So yeah you can definetely get scabies on your head, i have even heard people getting scabies in their mouth , ears and eyes. The more difficult cases of scabies are called norwegian scabies.

Permethrin is not good to be using as it is a chemical pesticide and can cause such things as cancer and neurological problems. I would suggest using a 10% sulfur cream which would be safe to use on your scalp and very effective as sulfur is 100% effective in eradicating any kind of mite including scabies. You can buy real sulfur lotions from the banners anywhere on this site as they carry real sulfur products specifically for scabies. You would want to be applying this to your scalp overnight for up to a week, this will eradicate any scabies that may be living in your scalp easily.
