My son came home 2 days ago and had a rash, it is not chicken pox and I am worried because I think it is scabies. I am used to lice outbreaks in schools but is it possible schools could have a scabies epidemic? And if so should I warn the school so that they can look into it or deal with it appropriatly? Another questions, should I be treating myself with scabies since I am going to be treating my son?
Thanks

Ofcourse you can get scabies from a school, schools are breeding grounds for things like lice and scabies. In fact most scabies are passed around in schools, nursery homes, retirement homes, jails and place where there is people sharing crowded environments are the perfect place to contract scabies. Not to mention in places like retirement homes, hospitals and jails people are more prone to get scabies because they may have a weak or comprimised immune system which makes getting scabies that much easier.

I beleive my son brought scabies home from school and infected me, he is 12 years old and began itching a few days prior to me itching. I know I can not use permethrin on my son as I would fear what the outcome would be as I have heard bad things! I wanted to move us into a hotel for a week and was wondering if this is enough time for the scabies to die off in my environment? I also wanted to know should I be worried about our minivan and what should I do?
thanks

Yeah places that are overcrowded or places that include people with weaker immune systems are always going to be more prone to get scabies. The dwell and flourish in these kinds of places due to the conditions of the environment and the hosts. If you want to stay away from getting scabies you should limit yourself to time in places mentioned.
