I have two cats that i adore very much and would hate to infect them with this, as im sure their poor little souls would never love me again. Should i quarantine my animals ?

Im pretty sure you can pass scabies on to cats and dogs. Not 100% sure but atleast 95% sure. I would think there is some kind of spray or something you can give them. Maybe a oral medication from the veterinanrian

I know cats can definetely get it and dogs get something called mange which is probably just a different form of scabies. Im curious though if human scabies can host on a dog or a cat. I would like to know also....

Yeah, cats can not get scabies as the mite does not prefer their skin, though cats and dogs can get mange which is like animal scabies. Cats and dogs can defintely be a scabies carries, meaning they can carry scabies from you to your brother, but the scabies does not like living on cats or dogs or can not survive.

I believe only a few days as they will look for a human host. Cats can only be a carrier of scabies and just pass it along to another animal or human. Scabies prefer a human host to feed on.

I have 3 cats and whenn I had scabies over the course of 3 months I had this very same thing on my mind constantly and felt bad. I always monitored their behaviour and stuff and through the whole ordeal nothing changed and they did not get scabies so I am assuming that they can not get scabies like said in this thread!

Scabies would only live on a cat or dog for a day or so then look for a human host. Cats and dogs both get mange which is a similar skin issue like scabies.

No scabies will only live on cats and dogs for like a day if that. They will look for a human host, as stated above dogs and cats get mange which is similar mite. A good sign of mange is hair missing on certain parts of the body or the dog and cat itching alot is another sign.

Scabies is a human mite which means they prefer humans and can only likely live on humans because of our skin cells. Scabies can live off the skin though for up to 5 days in the correct conditions so cleaning your environment is key to getting rid of them and avoiding reinfestation.

No, humans can not get mange as cats or dogs can not get scabies. I believe scabies can live on cats and dogs for a few days but will die or leave to find a human host, I believe the same is probably true for pet mange with humans likely.

It would be good though to keep your pet cat in a different area of the house atleast to you are in the clear and got rid of the scabies, just to ensure that your cat does not get it and pass it back to you after your scabies treatment.

Of course humans AND cats and dogs can get scabies. 2 cases at my vet now. One dog and one kitten that was homeless, both are being treated for scabies. The kitten was rescued by me. I first noticed scabs on his nose. Thought maybe it was scratched by another cat. They were not healing. Kitten kept scratching it's ears, so I took to my vet. I'm now giving 2 meds for scabies.
It appears that quite a few on this site have never been to a vet. Is everyone just guessing?!

There are many types of "scabies".The question was about if human type "scabies" can live, lay eggs and hatch them in a cats skin. Just because your vet used the generic term "scabies" does not mean that its the same type that this person is speaking of.
