I caught scabies in April and am still having the itchiness after many sessions of treatment.
I have had two different treatments of the cream, and both didn't seem to work. My doctor then prescribed the oral medication about 5 weeks ago and I saw great improvements. This week, however, I'm itchy again and the old bumps are just as inflamed as before. Did I catch scabies again or did my itching cause the shrinking bumps to swell? How long till the bumps go COMPLETELY away?
Please help!

Usually you will notice the bumps start flattening and going away after 2-3 weeks. I would say that you likely never got rid of them if you never seen your lessions started to fade and flatten, alot of times permethrin creams and oral treatments do not even work. I would suggest you look around the forum as there are many ways to treat naturally. Jamie has a blog at www.ScabiesHomeTreatment.com and alot of people who had no success with pesticides used her combination and it worked, specifically the creams she suggests which are 100% natural, safe and effective at eradicating scabies. Check it out, it seems alot of people are having success. Jenny

Also if the scabies lessions did start flattening but returned it is likely you were reinfected. I would suggest next time you treat use a natural treatment suggested by Jamie and then treat your environment maybe with some kind of raid bug bomb which are available at walmarts and drug stores, they contain small ammounts of pesticide which is safe to treat your environment.

Post scabies can last for months up to years, it really depends on how quickly you start treating yourself, the longer you go misdiagnosed with it the longer it will take to both treat and heal. Alot of times scabies is misdiagnosed with exzemma or allergies and doctors are quick to write it off as just that. This happened to my daughter and it took her a couple extra months to treat and heal. So if you have scabies you should start treating immediately.
Hope this helps

I would suggest try using sulfur for a treatment as a lot of people have reported the creams such as nix and kwelleda p are not effective. Sulfur is natural and 100% effective in killing any kinds of skin mites, it also penetrates the skin alot deeper and kill the mites. Sometimes people just speculate they have scabies mites without identifying the actual mite, hate to inform people but sulfur is the only effective treatment for bird mites and rat mites but will also completely kill scabies as well. From my experience using kwelleda p or nix is they do not even give you enough cream to cover your whole body in the first place, and it does a bad job at penetrating your skin and staying on overnight. They should really come up with some better treatments that penetrate the skin to kill the scabies mite and their life cycle. Anyways, I would suggest you use sulfur as it will kill your scabies and you can move on with your life. Here is the site I got them from: Scabies Sulfur Creams and Soaps Click HereHope this helps;Judy p.s - It will get better day after day, take anthehistimines daily and epsom salt baths nightly.

Sounds like you are either getting reinfested or perhaps the medication you are using is not working. I know when I had scabies permethin did not work and I tried treating 4 times with it 7 days apart. It wasn't until I started using sulphur soaps and creams that I started to quickly win the fight. From my experience permethrin made my skin itch even worse and also made my skin worse each time I put it on, it seemed like a temporary fix and then 3-4 days later it was back. Try using sulphur and you will see results!

This happened to me also until I started to use the sulphur soaps and creams, it seems scabies like to hide in the thicker parts of the skin and it's folds and the permethrin is useless on it cause it cannot get into your skin. Try the sulphur creams out theyll kill all the scabies for good!
Good Luck and remember it takes some time for post scabies itching to go away also

After my scabies treatments my fingers started to develop water blisters which had me worried but they never itched at all and seemed to go away within a day, after consulting a physician he told me that this was normal in post scabies as the skin is allergic and very dry and abused from treatments. He stated the signs to look out for was new track marks, new groupings of lesions, scratch marks (from scratching while your sleeping) and intense night time itching. He said if I didn't get any more of these it was likely I was in the clear, he did however warm me I would have some normal itching during the daytime and this slowly goes away as the skin surfaces the dead mites and their debris. He suggested I use sulfur soaps with a loofah while I shower for up to a few months to help heal the skin.
Hope this Helps

I am on week 3 of my second treatment. I just got a nasty flair up today. My hands and bends of my arms. I want this to go away. Apparently I have been mis-dignost for SEVERAL months, infected my newborn and husband only. We all did the permethrin. They show no more signs.. I do. I just hope since I was the host of it and had it for a long time that it will take me longer to heal. I am purchasing the sulfur soap just so I can have additional peace of mind. Heres to another 3 more weeks of freaking out. Happy Holidays.

My boyfriend and I are only on day 6 of "post scabies" after our first treatment of permethrin. Still a little paranoid I will never stop itching completely and that these bumps won't ever go away but I'm trying to stay optimistic. The first two days after treatment were awful and I found myself scratching even more then I had before the treatment which made me sure it hadn't worked. But slowly, everyday they seem to be getting a tiny bit better. I only seem to be itchy in the evening after I take a hot bath and benedryl helps with that. I haven't been itchy in any new areas and it has actually reduced quite a bit. I am going to do a second treatment of the nix cream because my pharmacist suggested it and I really want to make sure they go away. Hopefully by christmas :D

Try using sulfur its natural and wont cause the weird itchy side effects, it also helps heal your lesions faster. Be careful with Benadryl, be sure to take a few days off of it so you can monitor your situation to see if the "scabies itch" remains, sometimes benadryl masks the symptoms so people go longer having it. The first few days after scabies treatment your skin will still be itchy because of the dead mites and the fact the treatments really dry your skin out, you should spend a few days moisturizing your skin or even a few weeks.

I have had scabies for over a year now. Tried the permithrin cream time and time again, it did nothing. I went crazy even gave myself a staph infection from all the rentless scratching. I went as far as using bleach and infected my skin. I,'m now on day 8 of using sulfur soap and i no longer feel crawling at night and my skin is petty much cleared up, itching is at a minimum. Sulfur seems to be doing the trick along with teatreê oil to sooth my skin. Good luck to all battling this vicious mite.
