As confirmed by the Public Health Department of Illinois, there are different kinds of mites as insects. A few mite species feed on humans, whereas others live off animals, plants or other insects. Clover mites, scabies, chiggers, bird mites, dust mites, rodent and itch mites are some of the commonly occurring mites across the world. A few mites such as chiggers would infest only on the surface of the skin, whereas others would burrow themselves deep beneath the surface of the skin.

Non-burrowing mites would bite on the skin to feed on it and then fall off or detach themselves. Burrowing mites include scabies, which can lead to widespread irritation and also infest other individuals who come into contact with it. There are several kinds of medications available to cure the mite bites.

To relieve the itching symptoms of mite bites, topical creams are commonly prescribed. Usually corticosteroids like lindane, sulfur creams or permethrin are used. The majority of creams require application several times a day; however make sure that you read the instructions before you start applying these creams. In a few cases, the doctors would most prescribe oral medications to take care of mite bites. These medications would help to ease the severe itching symptoms. Mites are active at night and hence medications such as Tavist and Benadryl would serve well. On the other hand, most of these medications come with different side effects; therefore it would be suggestive to check out the alternative modes of treatments to deal with mite bites.
