Ringworm is a skin condition, also referred to as “dermatophytosis”. This condition is caused by the family of fungus known as dermatophytes. Every type or strain has its individual body area to affect. Therefore, a lot of people might have known the main cause of the skin condition is fungus and not worms. Apart from humans, all the other animals with fur such as dogs, cats, cattle, sheep and cattle, can also be affected by this fungus. Dermatopytes, ringworm-causing fungus, feeds on a material called keratin, which is found on the top most layer of the skin. Therefore, you would often notice severe infection on the feet, hair and the groin. Warm and moist areas are best suited for the growth of this fungus. Hence, you may find the ringworm infestation on these areas too.

If you wish to know how the ringworm infestation looks like, then you must look out for some pictures. Search on a few of the major search engines and you shall be able to access hundreds of ringworm pictures. There are various resources on the internet and they will acquaint you with the different kinds of ringworm. For the most part, the affected areas would develop raised lesions along with redness on the skin. The skin becomes rough and mostly, the ringworm infestations are circular in shape. Therefore, if you notice one or two medium sized rings on your skin, then the condition is probably mild. However, if you notice clusters of red rings, then you might be suffering from a severe case of ringworm.

There are several anti-fungal medications that can help you gain some relief with the mild ringworm infestations. For the most part, these medications are readily available over-the-counter. However, if you were to suffer from a severe case of ringworm, then you must seek the guidance of a doctor at the earliest. Besides, you must also have an accurate diagnosis of the condition. The symptoms of ringworm are similar to that of Tinea Incognito. As far as Tinea Incognito is concerned, the fungus keeps growing, without showing any distinctive features such as raised borders or red rings.

Ringworm is a contagious skin condition and it can easily spread from one person to another. Skin contact happens to be the primary mode of transmission. Ringworm is extremly common in children, since they often play in soil and come in contact with other kids at school. People involved in sports, where they come in direct contact with other individuals, are also likely to infest ringworm. Infected individuals would often experience a lot of discomfort and itching during the early stages of infestation. A doctor may perhaps prescribe a few antihistamines to lessen the itching sensations. You can also use some of the home remedies to seek some help with the itching and redness. For an instance, aloe vera is known to be highly effective on the affected areas and calms down the itch. As a precautionary measure, an infected individual must stay away from crowded places.
