Most people are not aware about the scabies reinfestation issue. Scabies, also commonly known as "the human itch" or “itch mites” is a contagious skin infection caused by scabies mites, minute infectious organisms that feed on warm-blooded hosts to survive. Scabies is caused by the inexplicit, microscopic parasites which get attracted to the humans due to the heat and the odors released from a human body.

Irrespective of sexuality and age, scabies can strike anyone at anytime. Nevertheless, this disease is most commonly observed in children, it’s solely because children typically get in contact with other children in playgrounds & play domestic animals, especially animal with fur, like cats & dogs. Scabies is generally caused in adults through handshakes or having sexual intercourse with a partner suffering from scabies. Genital areas are the perfect den for scabies mites; the bloodsucking organisms, over a period of time populate in these regions and can be easily transmitted to another human by physical contact. These parasites can survive many days without the support of a human host though they are hidden in areas like towels, clothes, curtains and other household items but are easily transmitted to a human body which comes in contact with such contaminated items.

Mostly, the symptoms of scabies do not emerge instantly; instead these parasites go through the reproduction process. Once the infection is spread through the mites, the victim feels itching, which soon turns into red rashes. It’s due to the allergic reaction of a human body to the feces & proteins secreted by the mites. Scabies are worse on skin areas which continuously rub with each other, especially fingers, wrists, waist or the elbow joint. But most of all the itching is horrible while sleeping.

Just make sure to understand that not all itching rashes are scabies. If you get the symptoms of scabies, first & foremost get yourself checked for infection. Most people panic when diagnosed with scabies. Do not panic. Just make sure that it is not spread to the other members of your household. It is only possible by avoiding contact with animals and with humans who are also suffering from scabies, you can prevent the infestation from developing. To clear up all the mites & their eggs from the infectious home, make sure all the clothes and bed sheets used by the sufferer are washed well & dried at high temperature before using again. The carpets and other furnishings scabies victim has come into contact with must be properly sanitized & cleaned.

Don’t compare scabies with AIDS; there are plenty of treatments available for curing scabies, such as sulphur creams & pesticides creams all manufactured by branded pharmaceuticals. But even after sufficient treatment, victims of this disease still suffer the itching sensation. Thus to reduce the chances of reinfestation, it is advised that all the other members of the house should also undergo the scabies treatment, regardless of symptoms for scabies.
