Ringworm is one of the most common skin diseases that affect people of any age, no matter how hygienic they are. Ringworm, as its name suggests, is not really a worm. The thinking of a worm living under your skin is wrong. It is actually a fungal infection that can affect any part of the body, especially the scalp, groin, nails and feet. It is so named because a red ring, having itchy white skin, occurs around the infected area of the person suffering from this disease.

Ringworm can be hard to cureas it is a very contagious disease and spreads easily from person to person. It even affects cats, dogs, sheep and cows that are affected when they come in contact with an infectious person or animal. Many people tend to ignore this disease thinking it to be very normal but they are alerted soon after the feel the itch and pain. Ringworms live on the surface of human skin, nail or hair and they sustain themselves by eating keratin that is abundantly found in hair, skin and nails. The chances of having ringworm increases for people living in warm climatic regions, having poor hygiene and who are malnourished.

Ringworm is easy to detect due to its symptoms but it is sometimes mistaken for other skin diseases like eczema. The most common symptom of ringworm is the appearance of round lesion on the affected area of the skin. It also causes the tendency to itch and is slightly red around the border of the lesion. When the ringworm affects the hair, the scalp develops a round, red patch that causes other problems like dandruff, hair fall and baldness in some cases. Scalp ringworm usually affects young children and it also cause rashes on the other part of the child’s body if the child becomes hypersensitive to it. When ringworm takes in place in the nails, it causes the nails to become thick and turn yellowish. It is more common in toenails than in fingernails, and it affects adults more than the children. The other parts of the body where ringworm can take place are the feet, especially between the toes, and the groin area. The common names for ringworms appearing in these regions are athlete’s foot and jock itch respectively.

Even though ringworm can be hard to cure, it is not impossible at all. It can be treated well if precautionary measures are adopted and proper care is given. There are various effective treatment options available for ringworms that work well if they are applied properly.

The thing we found to cure ring worm quickly was Tenactin foot spray. I don't what the difference in material is but it has to be the spray and not the cream rub. A Vetinarian told us of the cure after we mentioned our prescription drugs weren't working. The Tenactin spray within a day or two cured it.
