Ringworm is characterized by red lesions forming a circular shape with uninfected skin in the middle. It is caused by many factors but the most common is hygienic in origin. It can also be contracted from others because it is highly contagious and can easily be transferred from one person to another or even from your dog to you. Without proper medication, it is expected not only to multiply but also to grow in size.

Fortunately, there are home remedies available to treat ringworm and most of which are available without doctor’s prescription. Thus, home treatments for ringworms are relatively easy and will not drain your pocket as compared to treatment for other skin diseases. Ringworms are best remedied at the earliest possible stage and it can be done even without a visit to a doctor. The following are some common home remedies for the treatment of ringworm.

Antifungal Creams

These are readily available on an over the counter basis. Just wash the affected area with soap and water, let the skin dry, and apply the cream evenly covering the entire area and even extending by about an inch in diameter. Steps to be taken are simple and the frequency of application will depend on the instructions given in the packaging. The application should be continued 2 or 3 weeks more after the lesion disappeared to make sure that the fungus will not be revived.

The Natural Method

Treating ringworms does not always mean buying medicines from your local drug store. This is because there are natural sources available for treating the same.

• One effective natural treatment is Papaya. Just rub a part of unripe papaya fruit for 3 times a day until the lesion is totally cured. Another method is to peel it, put it on the affected skin and keep it there by means of a bandage.
• Ordinary garlic is a natural source of antibiotic and also has antifungal agents. This remedy is readily available in most households.
• Lemon is also used to treat ringworms and is touted as one of the best and fastest.
• Virgin coconut oil also plays a good role in treating this disease and just administering a few drops on the affected area does the trick.

Adults and children alike are susceptible to ringworm as it is transmitted by body contact but it is good to know that it can easily be treated using only available resources at your home. Better yet, a preventive measure like the good old proper hygiene is your best defense against ringworm.
